This was made of the stuffings we found in a quilt sent to me for evaluation by an old customer. The lore was that it had been made by slaves, and the non-industrial, seedy cotton batting supports this theory. This was my shift from the surface to the content of the quilt. The ghostly image of the surface is printed on organza from digital photos of the original quilt. But the true image is the content, seen through the organza layers.
Cotton batting recovered from deteriorating quilt, layered between silk organza. Photo-transferred prints of original quilt, hand quilted over batting, on silk.
