Mill Memory

This 24-panel installation was commissioned by the Hub City Writers Project of Spartanburg, SC. It forms an artistic component of its publication Textile Town,a community history of the textile industry in Spartanburg County. Memorabilia for the panels was contributed by many individuals whose lives have been touched by the textile industry. The complete installation was exhibited at the Spartanburg County Museum of Art in January of 2003, and has traveled to several venues since. It will become part of a planned cultural center for downtown Spartanburg.2 and 3 dimensional contributions, organized by theme: Recreation, Tools, Mill People, Raw Materials, Transportation, Machinery, Politics…The frames are from the floors of demolished mills. Screening, various cords and threads.
